WM transfer stations help ensure efficiency and convenience for community recycling and solid waste systems. They are conveniently located to serve as hubs for recyclables and waste generated throughout the community.
When recyclables, food/yard waste and garbage arrive at our transfer stations, WM teams consolidate materials and then load them on larger, long-distance trucks. Trucks loaded with recyclables go to recycling facilities; trucks carrying food/yard waste go to compost processing facilities; and trucks loaded with garbage go to the landfill for safe disposal. Consolidating materials at transfer stations and transporting them in larger trucks helps reduce trips and minimize our carbon footprint.
WM owns and operates five transfer stations in the region. The Forest Grove, Newberg and Kennewick transfer stations have public drop-off areas for recyclables.
