Why Compost?
|
Composting at your property has many benefits:
- Contribute to a more sustainable community. Did you know it takes up to 10
years for a carrot to decompose in a landfill? Composting food scraps and
food-soiled paper reduces waste and greenhouse gases, saves landfill space, and
provides a reusable resource to our community.
- Save Money. Food and food-soiled paper typically make up 30% of your
garbage that goes to the landfill. Composting is cheaper per yard than garbage. By
composting, you can reduce the size of your garbage container and save
money.
- Create Job Opportunities. Participating in a compost program creates jobs
and supports local economies
- Add a valued amenity to your property. People want to do the right thing
and reduce their waste. Offering a compost program makes your property more
attractive to tenants.

What to Compost?
|
Your property can compost all food scraps (including meat and bones!), uncoated paper,
and yard debris. Grass trimmings from lawn mowing can make up a significant portion of
your waste stream. Save money and reduce landfill waste by composting all leaves, grass
trimmings, and branches associated with landscaping at your property.
