Cooking Oil Collection

Cooking Oil Recycling

Ever wonder what to do with leftover cooking oil?

Single family residents who subscribe to WM services may place up to three gallons for curbside collection. Curbside collection of cooking oil is limited to 10 gallons per year. To dispose curbside, seal uncontaminated oil (no large solids) in clean, clear, screw-top plastic jugs (like a milk jug). Label jugs with name and address and place next to recycling cart.

Recycle it for free at the local drop-off located in the parking lot at French Lake Dog Park (31531 1st Ave. S.).

Please transport cool cooking oil in a plastic jug with a secure twist-on lid. Remember to use a jug that allows for easy pouring into the on-site collection tank. Please pour oil slowly and carefully into the on-site collection tank to avoid splatter, and take containers home to retain this free public service. Empty jugs can be rinsed out and recycled at home.

NW Biofuel will collect and convert the cooking oils into eco-friendly, sustainable fuel.

Curbside Recycling

By recycling you are helping to save energy, reduce water pollution, reduce water consumption, preserve natural resources and create jobs.

Collection Calendar

Your recycling is collected every other week on garbage day. There is no limit on the amount of clean recycling you can set out for collection. Put recycling that doesn't fit in your cart in old recycling bin or cardboard boxes (limit 3'x3'x3').

Collection Rates

Recycling is provided at no extra cost with your basic garbage service. Recycling and preventing waste can sometimes reduce garbage enough for residents to order a smaller garbage container for a lower rate.

Recycling Cart Tags

The City of Federal Way and WM use "Recycling Only Oops" to monitor contamination in recycling carts. If a driver spots unaccepted materials in your recycling cart, the cart will be tagged letting you know how to properly dispose of those items.

Our increased efforts in recycling right and reducing contamination is a result of new restrictions by China in the type of materials collected for recycling. We all need to do our part in helping to make recycling sustainable for years to come.

Recycling Tips

  • Empty clean recyclables out of bags and boxes and put them loose in your cart so that they can be easily identified and sorted at the recycling center. Clean paper bags and cardboard boxes are recyclable. Just put them in your cart after you empty them. Recyclables in plastic bags may be mistaken for garbage at the sorting center.

  • NO plastic bags in recycling. (Reuse or recycle at grocery stores) - Plastic bags get caught in conveyor belts at the recycling center.

  • NO shredded paper in recycling. Because of its size, shredded paper is difficult to sort from other recyclables.

  • Extra Recycling. There is no limit on the amount of clean recyclables you can set out for collection. Put recycling that doesn't fit in your cart in recycling bins, cardboard boxes (limit 3'x3'x3'), or a 32-gallon can with handles marked "recycling".
