Hillsboro Asbestos Disposal

The Hillsboro Landfill offers disposal services for Asbestos Containing Materials.

Asbestos Disposal

Effective February 1, 2002, DEQ issued new regulations regarding the removal and disposal of asbestos containing material. Based on those new regulations, Hillsboro Landfill is now requiring all asbestos containing material EXCEPT asphalt roofing shingles* to be packaged as friable asbestos.

*Asphalt Roofing Shingles can be disposed of as regular Construction & Demolition Debris.


Warning: Asbestos fibers can pose a significant threat. Please consult a licensed asbestos abatement contractor or the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality prior to handling any materials that could potentially contain asbestos.

Asbestos Packaging Requirements

  1. Wet material thoroughly with soap and water.

  2. Double bag material in 6 mil plastic bags as required by OAR 340-248. The bags may be obtained through a local safety supply store. Fiber Drums (NO STEEL DRUMS) may be used in place of the plastic bags.*

  3. Label all containers with generator’s (or homeowner’s) name and address.
*Alternative packaging methods may be used as long as both the Department of Environmental Quality and the Hillsboro Landfill approve them prior to shipment.

Asbestos Disposal

Bring a completed ASN-4 Waste Shipment Form with you to the Landfill for disposal.

Asbestos containing material (except asphalt roofing shingles) will only be accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 12 pm. Please call the office at 503-640-9427 Ext 0, 24 hours in advance to make an appointment for disposal.
